10/01/13 Class Notes
By David Sunfellow

As always, the class began with a few moments of silence.

Local Prayer List

After our quiet time, Ken gave an update on the local prayer list we have started. We started a prayer list because of the importance that near-death experiences place on prayer. Many near-death experiencers report that the prayers of others not only helped them during their NDE but, in many cases, contributed to miraculous healings and recoveries. While we don’t have any guidelines for the prayer list yet (except that we wanted to keep it local so it was manageable), Ken has started collecting the names of people who are in need of prayers. Ken also created an email list and phone tree consisting of those who would like to pray for others. Several prayer requests have already been sent out to the group and at least one person reported being greatly aided. If you are a local person and would like to pray for others in need, or include the name of someone in need, you can contact Ken at: Ken@sedona.net I’ll talk more about NDEs and the power of prayers in future updates.

The Mustard Seed Venture – NewHeavenNewEarth Community Center

After Ken let us know how the prayer project was progressing, Alexandra gave the group an update concerning our local center. The new center is located at 82 Saddlerock Circle (across the street from New Frontiers where the Antique Barn and Sedona Motorcycles used to be). We’ve paid our first month’s rent — for October — acquired renter’s insurance, and the water is turned on. We don’t have the power up and running yet because our local power company requires a $1,000.00 deposit (which we don’t have and are not yet sure how we are going to come up with). We also have a lot of stuff to clean up, paint, and repair before we can begin using the building. But we’ve taken the first few steps. We plan to launch a fundraiser later this month that will explain the vision behind this center and let everyone know what we need to get it up and running. In the meantime, here’s the short version of our shared vision: from the perspective of The Mustard Seed Venture, they want to create a place where the Kingdom of God that the historical Jesus talked about can be experienced here and now, among us; from the perspective of NHNE, we want to create a place that brings Heaven to Earth by embodying the core NDE truths identified in The Formula. That’s a tall order, of course, but after 30 years attempting to manifest this vision, we think the time is finally right for miracles to happen. Once we have a chance to flesh things out for you, we think you’ll be as excited as we are — and also want to lend a hand! Among other things, we are planning to host special events (like Robert Perry’s upcoming talk), hold meetings, share potlucks, and organize community Skype calls with cutting-edge speakers. We’re also planning a community garden, thrift store, fair trade store, and want to create multiple networks in Sedona that will allow us to find and support others of like mind, as well as the local community at large. If things catch fire in Sedona, we’ll set things up so other communities can duplicate what we are doing. We’ll have more to share about this new adventure in the weeks ahead…

October Calendar

The big news this month is that our Tuesday, October 22nd class will be moved to Thursday night. On Thursday, October 24th, internationally-known Course teacher Robert Perry will be talking about the parallels between A Course In Miracles and near-death experiences. This will definitely be a class that all Course students will want to attend — or, if you can’t attend in person, then watch later when we post Robert’s talk online. Along with being a well-known Course teacher, Robert is well-connected in the near-death experience community and has personally spent years researching NDEs. He is also very familiar with modern Jesus scholarship, a member of the Mustard Seed Venture’s Board of Directors, and a long-time friend. If things go according to plan, Robert’s talk will take place at our new center. We’ll confirm the location at a later date and also provide more information about what, exactly, Robert will be discussing during this important presentation.

Dr. Rajiv Parti’s Sedona Presentation

Most of you know that Dr. Rajiv Parti came to Sedona last week and spoke at our local class. Here is the video of his well-received presentation:

To find out more about Dr. Parti, go here. Dr. Parti also spoke at the 2013 IANDS conference in Arlington, Virginia. Here is a video of that short talk:

New Book: Mind Over Medicine

I recently came across an important book, written by Lissa Rankin, an M.D., that champions some of the core truths contained in near-death experiences, namely that our physical realities are primarily the creation of our minds and emotions. Translation: we all have the power to heal ourselves because we are the ones making ourselves sick. Here’s what NDEr Anita Moorjani has to say about the book:

“WOW! Just wow! That is how I feel about Lissa Rankin’s work! Everything she says rings so true to me, and her voice, as a professional medical doctor, is just what is needed in today’s drug dependent society. Bravo, Lissa for having the courage to speak out and share your truth. This world needs more like you!”

Mind Over Medicine is beautifully written and surprising deep and nuanced. Lissa doesn’t say that all illnesses can be healed for example, and acknowledges that sometimes our souls choose to be sick to learn and/or teach lessons. Illness, in other words, does not always bend to human wills, nor should it. There are, however, concrete, practical, effective tools that can help everyone deal, and often heal, whatever circumstances we find ourselves in. There are also many astonishing stories that make it crystal clear that miracles are not only possible, but happen every day — and, therefore, can also happen to you and I and those we love. I encourage everyone to read this book and share it with your family and friends. You can learn more about Lissa’s book, including what many well-known reviewers have to say about it, by going here.

IANDS Presents: NDE Radio with Lee Witting

The International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS) presents NDE RADIO, a weekly exploration of near-death experiences and similar encounters with the other side, hosted by Lee Witting.

The International Association for Near-Death Studies, the world’s pioneer organization in exploring what happens when the soul leaves the body, is now expanding it’s educational efforts through broadcasting with NDE RADIO.

Host Lee Witting is himself a near-death experiencer with a doctor of ministry degree in NDE studies. NDE RADIO airs live every Monday at 11:00 AM Eastern here on TalkZone.

The show features first-hand stories of near-death and out-of-body experiences, interviews with guests who have experienced the other side, and with researchers of the NDE and other “mystical” phenomena. Shows will offer the chance for audience call-ins, and each show will be archived for listening at any time.

NDE and Theology  (Listen on website • Download MP3)

This week’s special guest is Nancy Evans Bush, author of Dancing Past The Dark, and we are discussing religion, theology and NDE. Those who have had an NDE, the experience often leaves them questioning their religious beliefs. Even atheists. They’ve seen what lies beyond, and they often need to ask “what should I do with this knowledge?”

After talking NDEs, we watched this video in this class.

Raymond Moody: ‘Logic and Nonsense Conference’

The class ended with me telling everyone about a conference that NDE Researcher Raymond Moody is planning. The conference is called “The Logic of NonSense.” It is scheduled to take place January 17 and 18, 2014, at Contemporary Hotel at Walt Disney World, Florida. Here’s how Moody describes this interesting event:

“This program guides participants through a process that awakens an important forgotten power of the mind. The overall purpose is to enhance critical, analytic and creative thinking in a rapid, observable way.”

To read his complete description, go here.

After outlining briefly what Moody was up to, I told the class that I stumbled across a video that I thought faithfully reflected the ideas that Moody plans to explore. I actually thought the video could be something of a theme song for Moody’s new venture and posted it on his Facebook and Google+ pages so he would have a chance to see it. He responded saying the video was:

“A good audio and visual Nonsense depiction!”

Back to our class: I asked the class to watch the video and then let me know what in the world this video (and Raymond’s nonsense conference) has in common with near-death experiences…

What, exactly, does this have to do with near-death experiences? My best guess is that Moody is trying to help us expand beyond the confines of the logical, rational mind. When it comes to understanding near-death experiences, this is a very important ability to have. Not only are we trying to understand a topic that nearly all near-death experiencers say “cannot be described”, but the experiences that NDErs report often contain all kinds of wild, mind-tweaking, life changing imagery. Since a regular part of our class includes dream work, we’ve already been exploring this territory. Those of us who have sought guidance from God/Spirit/Our Higher Selves also know that this Force communicates in all kinds of ways, many of which are nonsensical to rational minds. And, of course, God Himself/Herself/Itself lies beyond the tiny-minded, linear way that human minds typically operate. So there is obviously a need to expand our minds; to explore new, less rigid, more flowing ways to communicate and understand. It will be interesting to see what Moody does with this…

Future Classes

Our next NDE class will take place on Tuesday, October 8th from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM at St. Andrew’s (see below for directions).

A Newly Emerging Spiritual Path

“Unlike spiritual paths that arose from the ideas and inner experiences of lone, isolated human beings, the path presented by near-death experiences is emerging as a direct, grassroots revelation that millions of people from all over the world are receiving and sharing. If we explore this newly emerging path deeply enough, we discover that all religions, philosophies, and cultures are honored; that science and spirituality are celebrated; that both the human and spiritual side of our natures are cherished and embraced. In short, near-death experiences present us with a universal, all-inclusive, perfectly integrated spiritual path that revolves around three core truths: 1. We are all one; 2. Love is the essence of life; 3. We are here, in this world, to become perfect embodiments of the divine.”

“The Formula”

“The Formula for Creating Heaven on Earth” or “The Formula” was introduced in David Sunfellow’s two-part YouTube presentation called “How Near-Death Experiences Are Changing The World.” The goal has been to identify the universal truths presented by near-death experiences and wrestle them into “a formula” that we can use to transform our lives. Version 1.0 can be download here (pdf). The Formula’s Circling Worksheet can be downloaded here (pdf).
